Precision, Control at Your Surgeon’s Fingertips

Kayal Orthopaedic Center is committed to providing patients access to the most state-of-the-art techniques and equipment whenever possible to improve procedures, reduce pain, smooth recoveries, and maximize results. Robotic-assisted surgery is one of the innovative approaches this award-winning team uses in the operating room to help achieve many of these goals.
Robert A. Kayal, MD, FAAOS, and Victor Ortiz, MD, have undergone special training to utilize the Mako robotic-arm during total hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, and patellofemoral replacement surgeries. This sophisticated tool results in greater precision and control during surgical procedures. Combined with the surgeon’s skill and judgment, robotic-assisted surgery can speed up recovery times and improve outcomes.
When performing total hip replacement surgeries, our experts combine the Mako robotic surgical arm with the direct anterior surgical approach. As a result, patients experience the benefits of both procedures.
It’s important to note that the surgeon remains in charge during robotic-assisted surgery, while the robotic arm serves as a guide for greater control and accuracy.

What to expect

  • Mako System’s software

Before surgery, your CT-scan images are programmed into the Mako System’s software to generate a 3D model of your joint. The model is then used to pre-plan and assist with surgery. This allows your surgeon to be as precise as possible when removing diseased or damaged bone. The Mako robotic-arm also helps the surgeon accurately place the implant. The result is often less pain, reduced trauma, and shorter recovery times.

  • Benefits

Used during minimally invasive procedures, robotic-assisted surgery can also mean: reduced post-operative pain, minimal scarring, improved joint stability, greater range of motion, pain-free movement and a speedier recovery, so you can resume work and activity sooner.
